I was working from a mac so burning a bootable iso of freedos with the changes prooved challenging as I usually use ultraiso for similar things to this on PC, but my workaround was to simply burn two discs, one was a straight burn of the image of freedos, and another of freedos's contents combined with the xdiag and bc08c740.bin files, I. Resolved a very rare issue where the system may either hang during system boot or boot with configuration options set incorrectly when non-volatile storage becomes corrupt. This is normally seen as the system hanging during system boot without anything displayed to video. Once the system gets into this state, the maintenance jumper can be utilized to recover operation of the system and restore configuration defaults. This revision of the System ROM will restore configuration defaults when non-volatile storage becomes corrupt.

Resolved a processor issue where an unlikely and complex sequence of conditions operating in 64-bit mode could result in an application-level error, blue screen, kernel panic, or other unpredictable system behavior. This issue affects platforms utilizing Intel Xeon 5100-series, Intel Xeon 5200-series, Intel Xeon 5300-series, and Intel Xeon 5400-series processors. This issue is not unique to HP ProLiant servers and could impact any system using affected processors. This revision of the System ROM contains an updated version of Intel’s microcode for affected processors that addresses this issue. Due to the potential severity of the issue addressed in this revision of the System ROM, this System ROM upgrade is considered a critical fix. HP strongly recommends immediate update to firmware revisions with required critical fixes. Resolved an issue where the system may hang while booting the OS when a non-bootable USB 1.1 Mass Storage device, such as a USB security key, is plugged into the system.

Resolved an issue where the server blade may intermittently report a large allocated power value. This issue only occurs when a system is power cycled. This value is typically larger than the actual maximum power usage for the server blade and can lead to a loss of power redundancy in the enclosure or result in the inability to power on additional blades in the enclosure.

Resolve an issue where the Core C3 processor idle state support would not function properly on certain versions of Linux. This System ROM update is needed to take full advantage of the power savings of this feature.

Update to the latest revision of the Broadcom PXE option ROM (2.1 v4.6.8) for the embedded NIC. This update increases the ability for the PXE option ROM to execute for systems with a large amount of option cards which may have run out of option ROM space in the past.

Resolve an issue where the server would not boot to CD/DVD media that was formatted with HDD Emulation. This issue was seen with certain versions of Symantec Ghost but is not limited to this application.

Resolve an issue which would prevent execution of option ROMs for devices with option ROMs greater than 64 Kbytes in size (which are extremely uncommon).

Resolve an issue where the blade server may hang during system boot after the ProLiant logo is displayed when an optional mezzanine card is installed. As this issue results in a hang during system boot, it may be required to remove all mezzanine cards to allow the System ROM to be upgraded.

Add support to the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) for disabling the Core C3 processor idle state. Core C3 is an effective power efficiency feature with minimal impact to performance. This option should only be disabled by users who are highly sensitive to processor latency.

Resolved an issue where the Processor Core C3 support would not achieve maximum power savings when running under Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or the latest Linux distributions.

Resolved an issue where the System ROM would not honor the Standard Boot Order (IPL) when certain formatted CD/DVDs are installed. This issue is seen when a Microsoft Windows ® CD is installed but the user does not select to boot from the CD when prompted by the media.

Added support for Dynamic Power Capping. Dynamic Power Capping allows reclaiming power and cooling capacity by safely limiting server power consumption using a fast-acting, hardware-based capping algorithm. Dynamic Power Capping requires updating the Onboard Administrator Firmware and iLO 2 Firmware in addition to the System ROM. All required firmware must be updated to utilize Dynamic Power Capping.

Resolved an issue which can result in a Blue Screen when using Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x64 in a system containing two different revisions of Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5200-series Processors or two different revisions of Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400-series processors. This issue will not affect systems with these processors installed if both processors are the same revision. This issue was not seen with any other operating systems or with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x86.

Resolved an issue where the system may experience an error that will result in either a Machine Check Event or a Fatal Memory Error logged to the Integrated Management Log (IML). This issue is only seen with certain DIMMs and is extremely rare. This issue does not indicate an actual memory DIMM problem and is fully addressed by this new release of the System ROM.

Resolved an issue where Microsoft Windows Server 2008 would not properly control processor power states when the HP Power Regulator setting is configured for OS Control Mode. This can result in sub-optimum power management when using Microsoft Windows 2008. This issue does not affect systems using Microsoft Windows 2003 or any distribution of Linux.

Resolved an issue where the system would fail to wake up from a Wake On LAN request when the system was previously shutdown using Microsoft Windows Server 2008. As part of this change, the user must enable Wake On LAN support under Device Manager for each NIC port using the Power Management tab.

Resolved an issue where HP Virtual Connect Manager Server profiles (including the Virtual Connect supplied MAC Address) is not properly applied to the HP NC364m NIC mezzanine. Updating the System ROM to this revision will completely address this issue and allow the Server profiles to be applied appropriately. This issue was first introduced with the January 24, 2008 maintenance release. Systems that have a ROM before this date are not impacted by this issue.

Resolved an issue with future mezzanine card support for HP Virtual Connect Manager. Addressing this issue exposed a problem with the HP 4X DDR IB Dual-port Mezzanine HCA firmware and the HP 4X DDR IB Mezzanine HCA firmware which will result in a system hang during boot-up. This System ROM should NOT be applied to systems using either of these Infiniband mezzanine cards if their firmware has not been updated. HP advises upgrading the HP 4X DDR IB Dual-port Mezzanine HCA to revision 2.5.000-clp-154 or later and HP 4X DDR IB Mezzanine HCA firmware to revision 1.2.000-clp-154 or later BEFORE upgrading the System ROM to this release.

This issue requires a rare set of conditions, resulting in a low probability of occurrence. The issue is not specific to any software application or operating system environment. This System ROM has minimal to no performance impact on affected processors and is a complete and comprehensive resolution of this issue. This issue does not affect the Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5000-series, Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5100-series, or Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5300-series processors, and this System ROM upgrade does not affect operation of these processors in any manner. Added support for booting USB DriveKeys that are formatted using file systems other than those typically used in Microsoft Operating Systems. USB DriveKeys formatted using Linux based filesystems may now be bootable with the addition of this support.

Previously, the System ROM would only allow the user to boot a ROMPaq floppy or ROMPaq USB DriveKey in order to update the System ROM. The user can now update their System ROM version via USB CD-ROM in an unsupported processor configuration.

Added support for allowing a user to change the USB DriveKey boot sequence from the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU). Currently, the system will always boot from an internal DriveKey when there are DriveKeys attached to both the internal and external USB ports.

Added a new ROM-Based Setup (RBSU) option that allows preventing the Server Asset Tag from being erased when the user selects the Restore Default System Settings option from RBSU. Previously, and by default with this version of the System ROM, the customer-defined Server Asset Tag is erased whenever the default system configuration is restored. This new feature is useful for customers who use the Server Asset Tag for asset tracking and who do not want this data to be erased. This new option is in the Advanced Options menu and is referred to as Asset Tag Protection. By default, this option is Unlocked. Set this value to Locked if the user wishes to prevent the Server Asset Tag from being erased.

Resolved a potential issue where certain DIMMs using IDT or NEC AMBs may, under very rare circumstances, cause the system to experience unpredictable behavior including, but not limited to, system hangs during POST, memory not being utilized or reported by the system, or memory errors during run-time. This issue has not been observed by HP or reported to HP on ProLiant servers.

Added support for Intel's latest Quad-Core Xeon 5400 Series Processors.

Added a new ROM-Based Setup Advanced Option to enable or disable the processors low power halt state (Intel C1E). With previous System ROM versions, this feature was always enabled and there was no method to disable it. When enabled, this feature significantly lowers power usage with negligible affects on performance. HP recommends leaving this feature enabled. The RBSU option provides the customer an ability to remove any concerns that having this feature enabled may adversely affect performance.

Since there is a limited number of Option ROMs that can be loaded, this option might be beneficial for those customers that need to guarantee that the embedded PXE option ROM is loaded. This value is typically larger than the actual maximum power usage for the server blade and can lead to a loss of power redundancy in the enclosure or result in the inability to power on additional blades in the enclosure.

Update to the latest revision of the Broadcom PXE option ROM (2.1 v4.6.8) for the embedded NIC. This update increases the ability for the PXE option ROM to execute for systems with a large amount of option cards which may have run out of option ROM space in the past.

Resolve an issue where the server would not boot to CD/DVD media that was formatted with HDD Emulation. This issue was seen with certain versions of Symantec Ghost but is not limited to this application.

Resolve an issue which would prevent execution of option ROMs for devices with option ROMs greater than 64 Kbytes in size (which are extremely uncommon).

Resolve an issue where the blade server may hang during system boot after the ProLiant logo is displayed when an optional mezzanine card is installed. As this issue results in a hang during system boot, it may be required to remove all mezzanine cards to allow the System ROM to be upgraded.

Add support to the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) for disabling the Core C3 processor idle state. Core C3 is an effective power efficiency feature with minimal impact to performance. This option should only be disabled by users who are highly sensitive to processor latency.

Dynamic Power Capping allows reclaiming power and cooling capacity by safely limiting server power consumption using a fast-acting, hardware-based capping algorithm. Dynamic Power Capping requires updating the Onboard Administrator Firmware and iLO 2 Firmware in addition to the System ROM. All required firmware must be updated to utilize Dynamic Power Capping.

Resolved an issue where Microsoft Windows Server 2008 would not properly control processor power states when the HP Power Regulator setting is configured for OS Control Mode. This can result in sub-optimum power management when using Microsoft Windows 2008. This issue does not affect systems using Microsoft Windows 2003 or any distribution of Linux.

Resolved an issue where the system would fail to wake up from a Wake On LAN request when the system was previously shutdown using Microsoft Windows Server 2008. As part of this change, the user must enable Wake On LAN support under Device Manager for each NIC port using the Power Management tab.

Resolved an issue where HP Virtual Connect Manager Server profiles (including the Virtual Connect supplied MAC Address) is not properly applied to the HP NC364m NIC mezzanine. Updating the System ROM to this revision will completely address this issue and allow the Server profiles to be applied appropriately. This issue was first introduced with the January 24, 2008 maintenance release. Systems that have a ROM before this date are not impacted by this issue.

Resolved an issue with future mezzanine card support for HP Virtual Connect Manager. Addressing this issue exposed a problem with the HP 4X DDR IB Dual-port Mezzanine HCA firmware and the HP 4X DDR IB Mezzanine HCA firmware which will result in a system hang during boot-up. This System ROM should NOT be applied to systems using either of these Infiniband mezzanine cards if their firmware has not been updated. HP advises upgrading the HP 4X DDR IB Dual-port Mezzanine HCA to revision 2.5.000-clp-154 or later and HP 4X DDR IB Mezzanine HCA firmware to revision 1.2.000-clp-154 or later BEFORE upgrading the System ROM to this release.

Added support for the Processor Core C3 power management feature. On supported processors, this feature will allow inactive cores to go into a lower power state when another core on the processor package is active. Power savings will vary based on the type of workload being run on the server.

Added support for Intel's Core Multi-Processing (CMP) Technology, that allows disabling of processor cores. This new ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU) option allows for disabling one-half the cores on each physical processor such that a dual-core processor will have one core enabled and a quad-core processor will have two cores enabled. This feature is not supported by all models of the Intel Xeon processor. Consult Intel documentation for further information.

This System ROM version provides no changes in functionality for any ProLiant BL460c systems not utilizing this specific Carrier-Grade Enclosure. If using the HP BladeSystem c7000 Carrier-Grade Enclosure, the user should also ensure the blade is configured with Integrated Lights-Out 2 firmware version 1.43 or later and that the c7000 enclosure Onboard Administrator firmware is configured with version 2.10 or later.

Updated the support code for the Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5200-series and Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400-series processors. This System ROM version integrates a new version of the Intel support code that addresses an issue that may result in a Machine Check Exception (MCE) or system hang. This issue requires a rare set of conditions, resulting in a low probability of occurrence. The issue is not specific to any software application or operating system environment. This System ROM has minimal to no performance impact on affected processors and is a complete and comprehensive resolution of this issue. This issue does not affect the Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5000-series, Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5100-series, or Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5300-series processors, and this System ROM upgrade does not affect operation of these processors in any manner. Additional information on this erratum can be found on Intel’s public website and in a Hewlett-Packard Customer Advisory.
Added support for booting USB DriveKeys that are formatted using file systems other than those typically used in Microsoft Operating Systems. USB DriveKeys formatted using Linux based filesystems may now be bootable with the addition of this support.

Added support to allow users to enable PXE boot from multiple embedded NICs. Previous versions of the System ROM limited the user to having PXE enabled on a single embedded NIC.

Added support for allowing a user to boot a USB CD-ROM when an unsupported processor is detected. Previously, the System ROM would only allow the user to boot a ROMPaq floppy or ROMPaq USB DriveKey in order to update the System ROM. The user can now update their System ROM version via USB CD-ROM in an unsupported processor configuration.

Added support for allowing a user to change the USB DriveKey boot sequence from the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU). Currently, the system will always boot from an internal DriveKey when there are DriveKeys attached to both the internal and external USB ports.

Added a new ROM-Based Setup (RBSU) option that allows preventing the Server Asset Tag from being erased when the user selects the Restore Default System Settings option from RBSU. Previously, and by default with this version of the System ROM, the customer-defined Server Asset Tag is erased whenever the default system configuration is restored. This new feature is useful for customers who use the Server Asset Tag for asset tracking and who do not want this data to be erased. This new option is in the Advanced Options menu and is referred to as Asset Tag Protection. By default, this option is Unlocked. Set this value to Locked if the user wishes to prevent the Server Asset Tag from being erased.

Resolved an extremely rare issue where the server may hang during boot when a Smart Array E200 or E200i controller is installed and enabled. This issue has only been seen during extensive reboot testing.

Worked around an issue where certain Linux kernels would issue a warning that the PCI Express Memory Mapped region was not reserved.

Resolved a potential issue where certain DIMMs using IDT or NEC AMBs may, under very rare circumstances, cause the system to experience unpredictable behavior including, but not limited to, system hangs during POST, memory not being utilized or reported by the system, or memory errors during run-time. This issue has not been observed by HP or reported to HP on ProLiant servers.

Added support for Intel's latest Quad-Core Xeon 5400 Series Processors.

Added a new ROM-Based Setup Advanced Option to enable or disable the processors low power halt state (Intel C1E). With previous System ROM versions, this feature was always enabled and there was no method to disable it. When enabled, this feature significantly lowers power usage with negligible affects on performance. HP recommends leaving this feature enabled. The RBSU option provides the customer an ability to remove any concerns that having this feature enabled may adversely affect performance.

Resolved an issue with booting Linux from large USB drive keys (4 GB or larger). This issue does not affect operation of the drive key after a USB-aware operating system has booted.

Increased USB storage timeouts to address an issue with iLO Virtual Media disconnecting due to heavy network traffic. This change would effect legacy USB emulation of iLO virtual USB devices, prior to OS drivers loading.

Added preliminary support for Microsoft Windows 2008 (previously code-named Longhorn). While this support has been validated with beta versions of Microsoft Windows 2008, there are no known issues as of the time of this System ROM release. This support should be considered preliminary as the final versions of Microsoft Windows 2008 and its certification tests are not yet available.

Added a new Advanced ROM Based Setup Feature that allows the user to change the priority in which Option ROMs are loaded during POST for all PCI/PCI-e devices present in the system. Specifically, the 'Load Embedded Devices First' option allows the embedded NICs to have their PXE option ROM executed first prior to any plug-in cards. Since there is a limited number of Option ROMs that can be loaded, this option might be beneficial for those customers that need to guarantee that the embedded PXE option ROM is loaded. The 'Load Option Card Devices First' option is the default and forces the embedded NIC's PXE Option ROM to execute last. In certain PCI/PCI-e configurations, the PXE option ROM for embedded NICs will not be executed if loaded last due to a lack of available option ROM space.

Resolved an issue where the embedded PXE ROM would fail to run during POST when certain configurations of expansion (plug-in) cards are installed. This prevented PXE boots from working with the embedded NIC.

Resolved various USB issues. This includes addressing an issue with Legacy USB boot support where the system would sometimes not detect a USB CD ROM and fail to boot the media.

Resolved an issue where using the BIOS Serial Console feature with a remote terminal with more than 25 lines of display would result in text being corrupted on the 25th line of display of the terminal. This caused an issue when the terminal window was resized to greater than 25 rows of display data.

Added support for Fully Buffered DIMMs using IDT's new AMB ASIC. This change does not affect operation of systems not using these new DIMMs. These DIMMs might be officially supported in the future.

Added support for iSCSI capable NICs to be displayed in the ROM Based Setup Utility's (RBSU) Boot Controller Order Menu. This will allow users to select an iSCSI NIC as a bootable device.

Reduced the required amount of cooling required for systems configured with 4 DIMMs or less. This will allow the enclosure fans to run at a lower speed.

Resolved an issue where a USB Drive Key will not be enumerated as the secondary hard drive (D:) when 'Hard Drive C:' is configured to be higher in the Standard (IPL) Boot Order than 'USB DriveKey (C:)' in RBSU. This also fixes an issue when using Microsoft's BitLocker security feature with Microsoft's future Longhorn Server operating system.

Resolved issue with BIOS Serial Console not displaying console data correctly when certain option ROMs are initializing and displaying information to the screen. This issue does not occur with most option ROMs.

Resolved an issue where the Embedded PXE Option ROM would not run during POST. This issue was seen when there are various mezzanine cards installed that have Option ROMs that run before the embedded PXE ROM can run during POST.
